Journey Bay of Coves to Wellington 17 March

The start of the next stage of our travels - Wellington and North Island here we come!

Last view of Bay of Coves resort from our water taxi...what a lovely place!

Close up of a pied shag...hanging out under the jetty at Picton dock as we got off the water taxi.

En route from a coffee stop, Picton waterfront to the Inter-Ireland ferry...what a beautiful day!  Picton's an interesting little place.... went into a gallery of up and coming NZ artists and an up market jewelry/glass shop both next door  to the cafe.  We passed by the remains of an 1853 merchant ship.

Picton from the ferry

We were lucky with crossing the Cook Strait on a calm day.  This is at the entry of the Marlborough Sounds and is the roughest it got.  Sightings of a humpback whale and dolphins from the ferry by the sharp eyed..you needed binoculars!
